Your Professional Development Committee is pleased to welcome Cheryl Knowlton as your 2024 National Speaker! A 24-year veteran of the real estate industry, Cheryl has spent the last 15 years speaking to thousands of real estate agents and brokers throughout the U.S. providing practical tools and strategies to remain compliant, stay out of jail, and run successful businesses – and have more fun doing it! This year's event will be held on Thursday, February 15th at the Hilton Garden Inn, and will feature 3 courses eligible for (7) CE Hours including:
8:30am to 10:30 am "Contracts, Lawyers and REALTORS®, Oh My!"
This course provides a comprehensive overview of basic contract law and how it impacts the Real estate licensee. The topics of unauthorized practice of law, types and validity of contracts, and an overview of the elements of a contract are covered in depth. Other areas addressed include the parol evidence rule, legally competent parties, unilateral and bilateral contracts, mutual agreement, assignment/novation, contract breach and misrepresentation. Eligible for 2 CE hrs.
10:30am to 12:30pm “Feeling the Love: Fair Housing and Buyer Love Letters”
In a world of multiple offers, we want our buyers’ offer to stand out. However, there are good AND dangerous ways to play that game. Are “Love Letters” – letters written by the buyer to emotionally influence the seller – legal? Are there potentially unintended consequences for submitting a “Love Letter” with your buyers offer? Join us for this timely and important course on avoiding unintended fair housing bias and discrimination. Eligible for 2 CE hrs.
1:30pm to 4:30pm “Ignorance Is Not A Protected Class: The New Face of Fair Housing”
In this engaging and interactive course, not only will students will learn to clearly identify the federally protected classes, we will additionally explore additional state protected classes. Agents will leave this course better prepared to protect and serve the public by challenging biases and outdated perceptions related to fair housing law.. Eligible for 3 CE hrs.
